Robert Salt, 44, from Stoke on Trent now runs his own business offering a wide variety of trade skills including plumbing, electrical work and tiling.
Robert Hewitt, 48, from Tamworth, was unemployed for three months after being one of 800 workers made redundant when LDV van makers closed the doors of their Birmingham factory last June and moved their operations to China. 2,000 people working for LDV's suppliers also lost their jobs.
Richard Bosworth, 29, from Rocester near Uttoxeter, was made redundant in November 2008 after working for 12 years with a local welding company.
