Manufacturing is important to the economies of the Midlands and the UK. However there is currently a gap where research and development ideas do not get translated into full-blown manufacturing.
Innovation Networks has been running since 2002, helping raise innovation levels in the region's small and middle-sized businesses (SMEs).
In 2007 Advantage West Midlands and Aston University in Birmingham pioneered a project to encourage small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to work with universities and higher education to develop innovative ways of working, thus making them more competitive.
